Reynoldstown is one of Atlanta’s oldest neighborhoods, settled by freedmen in the years following the Civil War along the Georgia Railroad corridor just east of downtown. That history makes it one of the city’s most historically significant African American communities, and it shares its eastern border with the historic mill village of Cabbagetown at the Krog Street Tunnel.

Like many historic intown neighborhoods, Reynoldstown saw decades of disinvestment through the mid-twentieth century before a community-led revitalization effort, anchored by longtime residents and local organizations, began rebuilding the neighborhood starting in the 1990s. Today, original shotgun houses and bungalows stand alongside renovated homes and new construction built on formerly vacant lots.

The Atlanta BeltLine’s Eastside Trail runs directly through Reynoldstown, connecting the neighborhood north to Historic Fourth Ward Park and Piedmont Park and south toward Boulevard Crossing Park, a level of trail access that has made Reynoldstown one of the more walkable and bikeable neighborhoods on the east side. Krog Street Market and Inman Park are also just across the tunnel.
