Edgewood
About Edgewood
Edgewood real estate is an established neighborhood on Atlanta’s east side, developed in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries along the Georgia Railroad corridor as one of the city’s early streetcar suburbs. Bordered by Kirkwood, Reynoldstown, and the Decatur city line, Edgewood has long been home to a mix of working- and middle-class families and has one of the east side’s longer, more layered histories.
The neighborhood’s housing stock reflects that history: Craftsman bungalows, shotgun houses, and early twentieth-century cottages sit alongside newer townhomes and infill construction built as demand for intown Atlanta living has grown. Many original homes have been renovated while retaining their front porches and period details.
Edgewood’s location gives residents convenient access to the Edgewood Retail District’s shopping and dining, Downtown Atlanta and I-20, and the Atlanta BeltLine’s Eastside Trail, which runs near the neighborhood’s western edge close to Reynoldstown and Kirkwood. The DeKalb Avenue corridor and MARTA rail service also provide a direct connection into Downtown and Midtown.
Edgewood is served by Atlanta Public Schools. Because school assignments in this part of the city can vary by specific address, buyers should verify current attendance zones directly with the district.
